About Dr Zhang

Dr Xiang Yun Zhang is one of the few practitioners in the UK qualified in both Western medicine and acupuncture / Traditional Chinese Medicine — a dual training that shapes how she works.

Training and career

Dr Zhang obtained her first degree in medicine — covering both Western medicine and acupuncture/TCM — in China in 1985. She was awarded an MD in Human Reproductive Medicine in 1991, followed by a PhD in Gynaecological Oncology from Beijing Medical University in 1996.

She practised as a gynaecologist in China, integrating acupuncture and Chinese medicine into her clinical work. After moving to the UK she spent seven years in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology at St George’s Hospital, London. In 2003 she returned to Chinese medicine practice, first in Harley Street and later in Clapham and Wallington.

Her work today

Dr Zhang practises as an acupuncture and Traditional Chinese Medicine practitioner. Most of the women she sees are trying to conceive or are having fertility treatment; others come during pregnancy and afterwards, through menopause, or at other points in their lives. She has published research in both Western medical journals and Chinese medicine journals — see her research and publications.
